Inter Valley Health Plan Company Overview

Company Fact Sheet  -  Executive Biographies  -  Board of Directors

Company Background
Inter Valley Health Plan is a not-for-profit, Medicare Advantage HMO health plan. It provides health insurance products for more than 15,500 people with Medicare throughout Riverside, San Bernardino, and portions of Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The Plan is made up of active leaders in today's healthcare arena—people who are committed to continually developing innovative, best practice approaches to coordinated healthcare. The ultimate purpose? To better meet the needs of our members.

The Beginning
In 1979, Inter Valley Health Plan was started by local doctors and Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. These experts designed the health plan around two primary pillars. First, improving member health. And second, providing first-class, real customer service for the commercial insurance population.

Originally named Pomona Valley Health Plan, the company began as a not-for-profit and remains one today. In 1983, the company expanded its service area outside of Pomona. To reflect its growth, the company was then renamed Inter Valley Health Plan.

Service To Seniors
As Inter Valley Health Plan continued to grow, so did its benefit plans. In 1983, the company received a Federal contract allowing it to provide benefits to people eligible for Medicare. The very first program of benefits designed especially for Medicare beneficiaries was called Service To Seniors.

The leadership at Inter Valley Health Plan saw that Service To Seniors was meeting a very important need in the community. It was also highly successful. Because of this, in 2002, Inter Valley Health Plan closed its commercial product to focus entirely on its Medicare members.
Today, Inter Valley Health Plan still offers Service To Seniors as well as a variety of other Medicare plans created to meet the needs of its members.

Commitment to Members’ and Community Vitality
Inter Valley Health Plan has been dedicated to the community it serves for over 38 years. Unlike the vast majority of HMOs serving Southern California today, Inter Valley Health Plan remains not-for-profit– meaning rather than allocating money to stockholders, the company puts the profits back into the Plan and puts its members first.

Helping Hands
Helping Hands is a volunteer program created by Inter Valley Health Plan in 2009. It was designed to give health plan employees a chance to volunteer and help build on our company’s mission—to bring health and vitality to the communities we serve. Through the Helping Hands program, our employees donate hundreds of hours to local non-profits every year. Inter Valley actively supports more than 40 charitable and community organizations in its service area annually.

For Your Vitality
Inter Valley Health Plan believes that good healthcare is more than just good medicine. That’s why Inter Valley offers a series of health and wellness classes. The aim? To engage, educate, and empower local Medicare members and the Medicare eligible community to make healthier lifestyle choices.

Every year, members—and the community-at-large—are invited to attend several monthly Vitality events and classes for free. These  events and classes cover everything from nutrition and label reading to Maintaining a Healthy Brain to How to use your Smartphone camera and more.

In addition to offering the Vitality events and classes at senior centers, we also take activities directly to the senior living communities where residents may not be as mobile. For a full list of our upcoming events and classes, please visit ivhp.com/vitality

A Voice for our Members
At Inter Valley Health Plan, member advocacy is key. That’s why the company’s board of directors is so diverse. In fact, our board is comprised of one-third consumers, one-third physicians, and one-third hospital representatives.

To provide an even more direct voice for members, Inter Valley Health Plan created the Member Advisory Council. Since 2001, a varied group of current Inter Valley Health Plan members meets quarterly to provide recommendations on current programs and health strategies for the future. The group helps our health plan keep a finger on the pulse of member needs.

Looking Ahead
With more than 15,500 members and 115 employees, Inter Valley Health Plan is one of Southern California’s most prominent Medicare providers. It is also one of the oldest, most stable Medicare HMOs in the region. Even better? Inter Valley has consistently been ranked above the national average on customer service and overall health plan by its members.

Our future promises to be bright as well. To find out how you can be a part of it, please visit www.IVHP.com for more info. Or become a fan on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/InterValley
